Do-nothing 34-year incumbent Ken Calvert is projecting his insecurities, again. He’s up with a new ad attacking one of Congress’ most outspoken China hawks because she donated $5,200 she had received from a political donor who was revealed to be caught up in an FBI investigation.
According to Calvert’s logic, that apparently makes Young Kim an undercover super-secret sleeper-cell double agent for the Chinese Communist Party — and it would be laughable if it weren’t so pathetic.
In fact, Calvert has done the exact thing that he’s now attacking Young Kim for. In 2016, Calvert accepted thousands of dollars in donations from two women engaged in a bribery scheme at the United Nations involving Chinese businessmen. When it was revealed by the media, Calvert was forced to return the donations.
But if Calvert wants to play Six Degrees of Conspiracy and Corruption, his own record is worth a refresher:
- Two women engaged in a bribery scheme at the United Nations involving Chinese businessmen had donated thousands of dollars to Calvert.
- Calvert was named one of the “Most Corrupt Members of Congress” by a government watchdog four years in a row.
- In 2007, the FBI examined Calvert’s financial records after questions were raised about steering taxpayer-funded projects near property he owned.
- In 2024, Calvert was scrutinized for again steering more than $16 million in taxpayer-funded projects within miles of his own rental properties.
- Calvert once admitted to having sex in his car with a prostitute.
Calvert’s desperate projections are sad to see. But after 34 years in Congress, maybe it shouldn’t surprise anyone that it’s all that Calvert has left.
