Anaheim, CA – In case you missed it, Politico today is reporting on a recent poll showing the race between Young Kim and 34-year incumbent Ken Calvert has essentially been reset since the primary and is now a dead heat. The new polling follows Kim’s dominant second-quarter fundraising report, in which she raised $1.15 million, outraised Calvert by more than $250,000, and maintained a more than $200,000 cash-on-hand advantage heading into the general election. FIRST IN SCORE — CA-40: A super PAC backing Rep. Young Kim (R-Calif.) circulated a polling memo to donors this week, obtained by Score, showing Kim statistically deadlocked with Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.). Calvert came in with 33 percent, with Kim at 32 percent and 18 percent undecided, though Kim’s support went up significantly after a message test (July 8-12, MoE +/- 4.9 percent). The memo tells donors that “Kim is in a position to win if she has the financial backing needed not only to fully define herself,” and it notes that the redrawn CA-40 includes more of Calvert’s old district than Kim’s.
