Young Kim Announced in First Slate of National Republican Young Guns Candidates

NRCC Tabs Kim as Top Republican Candidate After Finishing Ahead of Incumbent Gil Cisneros in Primary Election

Fullerton, CA – Today, the National Republican Congressional Committee announced its first slate of Young Guns candidates which included former Assemblywoman Young Kim. Young Guns is a national program that supports the top challengers in the country’s most competitive congressional races. The announcement comes after Kim finished on top of the March 3rd jungle primary, ahead of liberal Democrat Gil Cisneros.

Despite a competitive Democratic presidential primary election in California on Super Tuesday, Young Kim had a strong showing and finished as the top vote-getter in the 39th district by topping incumbent Democrat Gil Cisneros 48.3% to 46.9%.

In the release, Leader McCarthy states, “These candidates are running extraordinarily competitive, top-of-the-line campaign operations. Their hard work has put the majority well within our reach, and I look forward to welcoming each one of them to Congress come fall.”

In order to earn the final tier of Young Gun status, a candidate must prove a clear path to victory by posting strong fundraising numbers and building the infrastructure it takes to win. Kim continues to post some of the best fundraising numbers in the country and quickly surpassed all the benchmarks set for the nation’s top challenger candidates.

“Our campaign is built to win this November. Young is one of the hardest working candidates in the country and continues to put the needs of her community above politics every step of the way. In a time of national crisis, campaigning takes a back seat, but we appreciate the continued support of the National Committee because this fight has never been more important,” stated Kim’s General Consultant Sam Oh.
